Eighty per cent of Punjab’s water unfit for consumption

Ludhiana: In a shocking revelation, a sample survey by soil scientists shows 80 per cent of ground water in Punjab is unfit for human consumption.

The study, carried out by the scientists of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), revealed that the percentage of toxic arsenic had touched an all-time-high level in different districts of the State.Jajjal, Makhana and Giana villages of Malwa district are the most affected, where arsenic concentration has reached a lethal level, which can cause cancer among consumers, the study revealed.

Ground water is widely used for drinking and domestic purposes in the villages in Punjab, from where Soil scientists have collected samples of water for their survey.
